Our Funding

Within Eastbourne DGH teams of volunteers staff the Friends’ retail outlets. A shop manager is responsible for the Main Shop, Corner Shop, Flower Shop, Radiotherapy Cafe and Trolley Services.  All the profits from sales go straight into the Charity’s funds.

The Friends Shop in the main foyer is well stocked and is open seven days a week.  The attractive Flower Shop, which brightens up the main entrance, is usually open every day except Sunday but is closed at the moment due to the pandemic.  Volunteers also run the Corner Shop on the lower ground floor and this is open Monday to Friday.  Two Trolley Shops also provide an excellent week day afternoon service on the wards and a morning Sandwich Trolley round supplies staff seven days a week, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day, the Easter weekend and bank holidays.

Major funds come from bequests, legacies, generous donations, fund-raising and membership fees and each year the Friends Trustees agree to fund several hundred thousand pounds of equipment plus the adoption of a one or two year major project.

Over the life of the Charity many millions of pounds have been donated to the Eastbourne hospitals – almost 8 million in the last 10 years alone.

Our members hold regular events including a summer raffle, summer open gardens, an annual cream tea and summer fair, coffee mornings, bridge drives and concerts which all help to boost the income. Re-cycling also brings in funds with the production and sale of re-made greeting cards and the sale of used stamps.
