Help us raise £660K to complete two Major Projects
This year the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital have agreed to support two departments as their Major Project of 2026 and will be fundraising to raise £582,000 to complete a £660,000 donation towards these.
What are the two projects?
A few years ago it was agreed that two Trust services would be concentrated at the Eastbourne site, ophthalmology in conjunction with Bexhill, and interventional cardiology, both of which are great for the future of the hospital.
Ophthalmology surgical services in Eastbourne and carried out on the Jubilee Eye Suite. The most common of these procedures is cataract surgery. Virtually all ophthalmology procedures are performed using a microscope. When the unit opened many years ago a superb ceiling mounted microscope was installed which has now become unserviceable so an old floor mounted microscope is currently being used which is satisfactory but far from ideal.
Cardiology currently has two of its interventional procedure rooms open but a third one will be completed this year. This room needs equipping to the highest standards to maintain Eastbourne cardiology services the envy of the country.
Where will the £660K be spent?
• Ophthalmology – £160K will be spent on a state of the art new ceiling mounted Zeiss Lumera 700 microscope. This will include 3 screens so the surgery can be seen by others as part of teaching which is vital for the training of future ophthalmologists.
• Cardiology – £500K will be spent on suitable equipment for the third procedure room. As yet this equipment has not been decided upon but discussions are taking place on what the Friends can contribute towards. Whatever it will be will be top quality to support the superb cardiology service provided in Eastbourne.
How has the existing £78K been funded?
Over the last 2 years the Friends have been left several very generous legacies specifically for the ophthalmology department in Eastbourne totalling £78K. We would like to thank everyone who considers the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital to benefit in this way
