Every year during the run up to the Cream Tea and Summer Fair a Grand Draw is organised, which is always very popular and raises several thousand pounds for the Charity. There is a top prize of £1,000 and over 20 very generous prizes donated by the wider community. For example prizes in the past have included:
- Centre court tickets to the Ladies Tennis Final at the Devonshire Park
- Dinner for two at the Grand Hotel
- Round of golf for 4 at the Eastbourne Royal Golf Club
- Tickets for 2 for the Devonshire Park Theatre
- Many, many more prizes!
Volunteers help by selling raffle tickets in the Main Foyer during the weeks leading up to the Grand Draw. In 2014 the Grand Draw took £5,500, which is the equivalent of 5,500 raffle tickets being sold. Each volunteer slot for selling the tickets is 2 hours and volunteers usually work in pairs.
The FoEH produces a quarterly magazine that is compiled and distributed to our members by volunteers. The magazine is available for the general public to pick up from locations around the hospital and within the wider community. There are opportunities here for creative volunteers who help with the composition of the magazine, organised volunteers who help with the compilation of the magazine and volunteers who are willing to distribute magazines to members in their local area.
The magazine is important as it enables members of the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital to keep up to date with current news and developments within the Charity and helps to raise the profile of the charity in the wider community.
You can get a copy of the latest hospitality magazine from the Friends’ Office or pick one up from one of our notice boards. Alternatively you can read it online from here.
If you are a keen photographer and have a really good picture you would like to send us that we may be able to publish in our Hospitality Magazine or on our website, please email it to: email@example.com All photographs must be sent in a digital format; we are not able to use prints.
Every year between May and July the Friends of the Eastbourne Hospital are very lucky to have permission to open between 8 -10 private gardens to members of the public. The Open Garden Team organises everything to do with the day, from putting up the signposts to selling plants, refreshments and remade cards.
The Open Gardens are tremendously popular with the public and do a fantastic job enhancing awareness of the Charity and raising money in such pleasant surroundings.
You can either volunteer to join the team who help organise the events or, if you have a beautiful garden, you could open it to the public for the day. If you are interested in opening your garden for the charity please email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
We would love to see any lovely pictures that you have taken of one of our open gardens. Please email your photo to
email@example.com with a brief description of where the photo was taken. We will publish the best ones on our website, with your permission. Please note, we cannot show photographs of the garden owner’s house.
In early summer the FoEH holds a Cream Tea and Summer Fair. The Summer Fund-raiser is organised by a committee who work together to co-ordinate a great afternoon of fun and entertainment. Volunteers are needed to join the committee or to help on the day either before, during or after the event. Please contact Debbie in the Friends Office if you would like to be involved.
In 2016 the Cream Tea and Summer Fair will be at the East Dean and Friston Village Hall, off Gilbert’s Drive, East Dean on Sunday 19 June 2016 from 1.30 pm – 4.30 pm. Make a note in your diary and come and join us for a great afternoon of fun and indulgence. Entry to the stalls is FREE and teas cost from just £5. Guest can enjoy delicious scones, a choice of cakes and tea or coffee, whilst being listening to the musical entertainment. We have a fine selection of stalls including: Cakes, Plants, Cards, Flower Shop, Bathroom goods, Pimms, Books, Silver & Jewellery & Bags and a Bottle Tombola.
The Re made Card Team are a group of people who meet up in the hospital every 6- 8 weeks and in between time work from home. They take suitable, donated, used greetings cards and cut and mount them on specially printed inners to produce high quality cards, which are then sold in the Friends’ Shops and at outside events. The cards are attractive and very competitively priced so are always popular. Volunteering opportunities include all or one of the following:
- Sorting cards for remaking
- Cutting the cards to size (paper trimmers can be provided)
- Sticking cut fronts to the inners
- Selling cards at outside events such as the Christmas Coffee Morning
Christmas Coffee Morning
This is a pre-Christmas fund raiser held at a local church hall providing the usual mix of craft, produce and gift stalls to tempt the Christmas shoppers. There is always a raffle and of course, refreshments. Volunteers are needed to:
- Help to set up and organise the event
- Sell raffle tickets
- Man the stalls
- Provide refreshments
This volunteering opportunity would suit someone who is not able to make a regular commitment but nevertheless enjoys being part of a team and meeting new people.
There are many one-off events that take place each year such as the Tennis Tournament. Keep an eye on the Events page for more details.
